NUA Surgical and its founding team has achieved significant milestones since 2017. The road to commercialising a medical device is long, challenging, expensive and hugely rewarding. Pre-clinical trials, international conferences & securing funding are all building blocks required to make a difference.
In December 2018, NUA Surgical was the only Irish university start-up selected to take part in the inaugural Blackstone LaunchPad Accelerator Powered by Techstars in New York.
In September 2019, NUA Surgical was selected as a regional finalist (Connacht & Leinster) in the InterTradeIreland Seedcorn competition.
In November 2019, Barry McCann, founder and CEO of NUA Surgical was named 'Best Senior Entrepreneur' at the EIT Health Alumni Needs-Led Innovation Showcase in Lisbon, Portugal.
In November 2019, NUA Surgical COO Marie-Therese Maher presents at the NUI Galway Innovation Showcase organised by the BioExel Accelerator.
In December 2019, NUA Surgical CEO Barry McCann presents on Needs-led Innovation at the 2019 EIT Health Summit in Paris, France.
CTO Padraig Maher dedicated weeks to work with hospitals, researchers and start-ups to develop a CPAP Hood for use in local hospitals. The project received further funding from Science Foundation Ireland.
On June 2nd 2020, NUA Surgical were announced as one of 16 winners across the UK and Ireland. We will receive €40,000 funding and additional support to advance our innovation in women's health.
